FOREST GROVE, Ore (August 31, 2018) - The UW-Stout volleyball team gave first year coach
Mandy Trautmann her first collegiate win as the Blue Devils presented their coach with a 3-2 win over Whitman College in the first match at the Oregon Trail Classic at Pacific University Friday.
Three Blue Devils recorded double-digit kills in the five-set affair, with senior middle hitter
Kennedy Strain leading the way with 15 kills.
Amber Ripley added 12 kills and freshman
Grace Maurer notched 11 kills in her collegiate debut.
The two teams traded games, with the Blue Devils taking the first contest, 25-20, but Whitman tied the match with a 25-12 second win. Stout shot out to the lead in the third set, but had to hold off Whitman to take a 25-23 win. The teams reversed that score in set four with Whitman on the winning side a 25-23 score. Stout claimed the match with a 15-10 final set win.
McKylie Hoff recorded four block assists. Freshman
Lexie Nelson had two solo blocks and a block assist to go with her 18 assists.
Jessica DuVal finished with 23 assists as the Blue Devils spread the sets around and finished with 54 total assists.
It was a similar story in the second match of the day when the Blue Devils took on host Pacific University, alternating sets and winning, 3-2, in the last game of the night, 25-18, 21-25, 25-23, 19-25, 15-10.
Ripley finished with 16 kills, while Strain added 14. Strain had three solo blocks and a block assist, while Hoff had a solo block and three block assists. DuVal and Nelson combined for 55 of Stout's 59 assists, with DuVal setting up 23 and Nelson 22.
Steph Cannon had 25 digs and Ripley 23.
Stout moves to Lewis and Clark College Saturday, Sept. 1 where they will face the host school and Willamette University.
