Stout splits with Scarlet Hawks in Chicago

UW-Stout 12, Illinois Institute of Technology 1 (7 innings) | Illinois Tech 7, UW-Stout 2

CHICAGO, Ill (April 21, 2018) - Jordan Wilson and Jack Hemsath each went 2-for-4 with two RBI in game one and UW-Stout scored five runs in each of the second and third innings for a 12-1 seven inning win over Illinois Tech Saturday in Chicago. Jack Donahue went the full seven innings, striking out three and allowing five hits to get the win.

In the opener, Stout scored first on a Hemsath single. The Blue Devils (4-15, 1-7 WIAC) struck for five runs in both the second and third innings.

In the second, Reid Akerman blasted a two run single, then scored on Wilson's double. Jon Krueger plated Wilson with a single and Hemsath notched his second RBI of the game when he drilled a double. The Scarlet Hawks (10-15, 2-8 WIAC) got a run back in the top of the third, but Stout made it 11-1 with another five run outburst, assisted by a pair of Tech errors. Ben Vanhove scored what would eventually become the game-ending run in the forth inning, opening the stanza with a single. He stole second and eventually scored on a passed ball.

Donahue recorded this third win of the season with the seven inning effort.

The Scarlet Hawks used a three-run third inning for a 7-2 second game win as Stout stranded nine runners. Stout's only two runs of the game came in the bottom of the ninth when Wilson drove in two runs.

The teams will meet again Sunday.

The conference games were originally scheduled to be played in Menomonie, but field conditions on Nelson Field caused the game to moved south.
