UW-Stout 8, Illinois Tech 2 | Illinois Tech 10, UW-Stout 8

CHICAGO, Ill (April 22, 2018) - Zach Carlson recorded eight strikeouts in an 8-2 win as UW-Stout split a doubleheader with Illinois Tech at Ed Glancy for the second consecutive day. The Scarlet Hawks came back for a 10-8 second game win. The teams, meeting for the first time, had split their inaugural series a day earlier.

Carlson, a senior from Indian Head Park, Ill, a suburb on the southwest side of Chicago, returned to his home area and picked up his first win of the season. Carlson went 8.0 innings, allowing five hits and one run.

Stout (5-16, 2-8 WIAC) opened the scoring in the second inning when Kasey Bass hit his first career home run, and Stout's first round tripper of the season. The first baseman went 2-for-4 in the contest as Stout finished with 11 hits. The Scarlet Hawks (11-16, 3-9 WIAC) tied the score in the third inning, but Stout took the lead back in the third when Jon Krueger drove in Jordan Wilson.

Stout added two runs in the seventh inning on a sacrifice fly by Jack Hemsath and an RBI single by Hunter Merrill. Stout added four more runs in the eighth to put the game away, as Kyle Hamilton, Wilson, Ben Vanhove drove in a run and Vanhove scored on a wild pitch. Illinois Tech added a run in the ninth.

In game two, after Illinois Tech scored two in the second inning, the Blue Devils scored six runs in the bottom half of the inning, getting some help from four Tech errors.

The Scarlet Hawks chipped away at the lead, scoring one run in the third, two in the fourth, one in the sixth and three in the seventh to take a 9-6 lead. Stout pulled to within one run in a two-run seventh, as Bass doubled in a run - his second RBI of the game - and Jared Jarvensivu lifted a sacrifice fly. Illinois Tech added one more run in the ninth.

Krueger was 3-for-4 and Hemsath and Merrill each recorded two hits as Stout finished with 10 hits. Illinois Tech recorded 11 hits and have five players with two hits each.
