THIS WEEK'S GAMES: The Blue Devils (10-2, 0-0 WIAC) are off to the best start in school history after going 9-1 during their annual spring break trip. The Blue Devils' game at
Crown College (7-11, 0-0 UMAC) Wednesday, March 28, was postponed to Monday, April 2, but has been canceled for the second time. The Blue Devils will head to Chicago for three games, playing
Concordia-Chicago (9-5, 0-0 NAAC), Friday, March 30 and two against
Lake Forest College (12-6, 2-0 MWC), Saturday, March 31. The Chicago trip was originally scheduled for March 24-25, but was postponed due to potential inclement weather in the Chicago area. A game with Elmhurst College was canceled.
UW-STOUT: After going 9-1 on their annual spring break trip, the UW-Stout softball team is off to their best start in program history. The Blue Devils are currently 10-2 overall. Stout won eight spring break games in 2016 when they played 10 games and went 8-4 in South Carolina.Stout started off the season by knocking off No. 8 St. Catherine 9-8 at the Rochester Dome, then were edged by No. 9 Luther College, 5-3, later the same day.
BLUE DEVIL OFFENSE: The Blue Devils' offense paved the way as Stout average 11.5 hits per game over the 10-game schedule. Stout posted a team batting average of .399 in Florida, a slugging percentage of .618 and an on-base percentage of .427. The Blue Devils belted 10 home runs in the Florida sun, 29 doubles, and two triples to total 41 extra-base hits. Stout also scorched the base paths, stealing 36 bases in 39 attempts.Stout outscored their opponents by a total 83-28 runs (8.3-2.8 runs/game) and ended four games before seven innings. Stout scored 10 runs or more in four games.In batters that had 10 or more at-bats, Stout had 10 players that batted .300 or above and seven batted .400 or better. Sophomore
Mary Iliopoulos, who transfered to Stout this season, was 12-of-19 (.632) with 14 runs scored, two doubles, a triple and two home runs for a slugging percentage of 1.158. Iliopoulos was 7-of-8 in stolen bases.
Kyncaide Diedrich was 18-of-32 (.563) with 14 runs scored, one double and two home runs for a slugging percentage of .781. Diedrich accounted for 16 RBI and successfully stole 15 bases in 16 attempts. Freshman

Kate Horn, who predominately came on as a pinch runner was 3-for-3 in stolen base attempts.
PITCHING STAFF: The Blue Devils used four pitchers and as a pitching staff posted an ERA of 2.33, allowing an opponent's batting average of .260. The staff struck out 37 and allowed 14 walks. The quartet allowed 12 doubles, one triple and two home runs for 15 extra-base hits. Senior
Beth Wood led the staff with 29.2 innings pitched, striking out 17 and walking five. The veteran started five games and posted a 3-1 record in Florida, absorbing the only loss, a 5-4 decision to SUNY-Geneseo in the final game of the trip.
Melea Bruns,
Sommer Kunstmann and
Meghan Kelly are all freshmen. Bruns earned wins in each of her starts, tossing 14.2 innings with an ERA of 1.43. Kunstmann and Kelly each started one game, with each picking up a win.in the starts. Kunstmann earned one win in relief and worked 11.2 innings with an ERA of 1.20 in five appearances. Kelly made two appearances over 7.0 innings pitched and posted a Florida ERA of 2.00.
OVERALL STATISTICS: In all statistics this season, Iliopoulos leads Stout at the plate with an average of .696 (16-of-23).
Kyncaide Diedrich is batting .488, with a 10 game hitting streak coming into this week's games. Diedrich has driven in 17 runners.
Rachel Thomas As a team, the Blue Devils are batting .385 and allowing a batting average of .284. Stout has stolen 38 bases in 41 attempts, with Diedrich swiping 18 of 19 bases. Wood (3.84, 3-1) has started six games and Bruns (2.94, 3-1) has started four games. |

THIEVERY AT ITS BEST: Kyncaide Diedrich has stolen 18 bases in 19 attempts this season, only one short of her total from last year.
WIAC PRESEASON POLL The Blue Devils were selected to finish fifth, according to a
WIAC preseason poll. UW-Whitewater was picked first, followed by UW-La Crosse, UW-Oshkosh and UW-Eau Claire. UW-Platteville, UW-River Falls and UW-Stevens Point were chosen sixth, seventh and eighth, respectively.
CONCORDIA-CHICAGO: After playing the first 12 games of the season away from campus, the Concordia University Chicago Softball team finally got to take the field at home today. They would take on the Carthage College Lady Reds for their home opener. CUC took game one 5-4 behind two fourth inning runs. Carthage answered by swinging the bats late in game two, downing CUC by a final score of 7-3. Monday, March 26. Marita Van Dyke picked up her sixth win of the season inside the circle for CUC. The junior allowed eight hits and three earned runs while striking out four. Landon led the Cougars offensively, going 1-2 and driving in one. Melissa Balkema is hitting ..462 and has 14 RBI. LAST TIME STOUT AND CONCORDIA MET: The early innings cost UW-Stout a pair of games as the Blue Devils completed a four-game swing through the Chicago area Sunday. LAKE FOREST COLLEGE: A game one walk-off single was one of five hits on the day for sophomore first baseman Riley Frisbie as the Forester softball team defeated visiting Ripon College 3-2 and 13-6 on Tuesday. March 27 A day earlier, the Foresters had split with the University of Chicago, losing the first game, 3-2, but coming back for a 6-4 second game win. Frisbie is hitting .439 with 14 RBI and has two home runs. Maria Zepeda has 12 RBI and Hannah Kalnicky 11. CROWN COLLEGE: The Storm opened the season with six straight losses playing in northern domes, then righted the ship by stepping outside and going 7-5 on their spring break trip to Fort Myers, Fla. Cassidy Valenzuela leads the team the plate, hitting .393 (22-56), with two doubles and three triples. Pitcher Lis King is team's power hitter, unleashing four home runs and has a team-best 14 RBI. COACHES: Blue Devil coach
Becky Iaccino (63-65 overall / 45-47 at UW-Stout) is in her third year as the head coach of the Blue Devils. Iaccino played professionally in Italy
from 2003 to 2011 and with the Italian National team from 2005-07. She has been the head coach at Marian University where she was selected as conference coach of the year, and has eight years of experience as an assistant coach at Division I and III programs.
CROWN COLLEGE:
Jamie Ross is in his eighth season as the head softball coach at Crown College. Ross is also the head coach for the women's soccer program.
CONCORDIA-CHICAGO:
Sarah O'Malley-Fisher is entering her sixth season as head softball coach at Concordia University Chicago. In her first five seasons at the helm, O'Mally-Fisher has guided the Cougars to school-record 19-win seasons twice, in 2013 and 2015..
LAKE FOREST COLLEGE: The 2018 season will be
Joe Kinsella's 12th at Lake Forest College and 19th as a collegiate head coach. The three-time Midwest Conference South Division Coach of the Year owns a 244-167-1 overall record and impressive 121-23 mark in MWC play during his first 11 seasons at the College. Kinsella coached the 2017 Foresters to a 22-16 overall record and a 12-5 mark in league play to advance to the four-team MWC Tournament for the 18th year in a row.
GRAND APPEARANCE:
Katelyn Schobert hit not only her first collegiate grand slam, but her first collegiate home run with a bases-loaded round tripper against Westfield State College, March 16, 2018, in Clermont, Fla.
Alicia Meyer hit a grand slam against the College of Mount St. Vincent, March 14. Meyer had six RBI in the game. Previous to Meyer's grand slam, the last 4-RBI round tripper came March 8, 2013 by Alison Gray against St. Olaf College.
