FORT MEYERS, Fla (March 15, 2018) - After losing the past three games down in Florida, the UW-Stout baseball team found a way to get back into the win column on Thursday as they beat Lakeland University, 10-5.
With a lot of energy coming from the bench, the Blue Devils struck first in the top of the first inning with four runs on three hits. With a four run lead, starter
Jack Donahue just had to throw strikes. With a walk to the lead off guy, Donahue settled down and got the next three guys on outs.
The Muskies found ways to score in the bottom of the second to make the game 4-2. The Blue Devils fought back with their own runs the next half inning as they scored three runs on four hits to make the game 7-2.
Stout did not stop the scoring affair at seven. In the top of the fifth inning, the Blue Devils scored two more runs on two hits.
Lakeland scored one in the bottom of the sixth and two in the bottomo of the eighth inning to make the score 9-5 going into the last inning.
Stout did score an insurance run in the top of the ninth to make the game 10-5.
Logan Langbehn closed the game out in the bottom of the ninth.
Jack Donahue recorded his second win on the season. Donahue went eight innings, striking out five and giving up five runs and four being earned. Langbehn went a scoreless ninth inning while walking the first batter and getting the next three guys on flyball outs.
Kyle Hamilton led the offense with three hits and four RBI's.
Jordan Wilson and
Hunter Merrill each had two hits a piece.
Up next for Stout is a game against Augustana College (IL) tomorrow, March 16 at the PDC in Fort Meyers, Florida.
