UW-Stout 5, Olivet College 4 (8 inn)
MINNEOLA, Fla. (March 13, 2018) - UW-Stout ran their winning streak to six games with a pair of wins Tuesday, defeating Albright College, 10-2, then in their closest game so far in the PFX Athletics College Spring Games, took a 5-4, eight inning win over Olivet College.
Kyncaide Diedrich was 4-for-4 with three RBI in the first game as five Blue Devils had multiple hit games. Diedrich smashed a three-run home run to tie game two in the fifth inning, then scored the first run in a two-run eighth.
In the second game of the morning, the Blue Devils needed eight innings to fight off their toughest game of the Florida trip.
Olivet scored once in the first and twice in the third to take a 3-0 lead.
The Blue (7-1) got all three runs back in the fifth inning.
Alicia Meyer opened the inning with a single and
Katelyn Schobert delivered a one-out single. The pair moved up a base on a wild pitch, but it would not have mattered because Diedrich dumped the ball into left field to tie the game at 3-3.
Neither team scored in regulation, but Stout did threaten and stranded a runner in each the sixth and seventh innings.
Diedrich was placed on second base due to the international tie-breaker, then advanced to third on a stolen base.
Beth Wood drew a walk and
Kate Horn came in as a pinch runner. Horn stole second to get into scoring position. Kaylee Francois drove in Diedrich on a groundout. Horn moved to third and came home on an error in what would prove to be the decisive run.
Olivet scored one run in the bottom of the eighth with two outs, but
Sommer Kunstmann forced a groundout to end the game.
Wood was 2-for-3 and Kunstmann was 2-for-4 to lead Stout. Kunstmann picked up the win in 5.1 innings of relief, allowing two hits and notching two strikeouts.
Albright scored the first run of the day, but Stout answered back with three runs in the bottom of the first, and two more in the second. albright addenda their final Dunn of the day in the third before Stout score do four in the bottom of the third.
In the opener, Albright scored the first run of the day, but Stout took the lead for good with two runs in the bottom of the first and three in the second. Murphy drove in two runs with a double in the first inning.Â
Mary Iliopoulos led off the second inning with a home run and Wodd drove in a run. Following a run by Olivet in the top of the third,
Rachel Thomas had a two-run double and Diedrich a two-run single in a four-run third inning. With a 9-2 lead, Stout ended the game in the fifth on a Diedrich RBI single.
The Blue Devils laced 16 hits in the win, with five players delivering multi-hit games. Diedrich led the way going 4-for-4 with two runs scored and three RBI. Thomas was 3-for-4 with two runs and two RBI. Murphy was 2-for-3 with a run scored and two RBI. Iliopoulos was 3-for-3 with three runs scored an RBI.Â
Melea Bruns picked up the win for Stout, allowing six hits and getting a strikeout.
The 7-1 start is the best start for a Blue Devil team since Stout opened the 2008 season at 7-1, which was Stout's best-ever start over the first eight games of the season. Stout is 6-0 in Florida this season.
The Blue Devils are off Wednesday, March 14, but return to action Thursday, March 15 when they host Lasell College and Bethel University.
