With pair of five inning wins, Stout runs streak to eight

UW-Stout 11, Lasell College 0 (5 inn) | UW-Stout 13, Bethel University 4 (5 inn)

CLERMONT, Fla. (March 15, 2018) - Following a pair of five-inning wins, the UW-Stout softball team ran their winning streak to eight as they defeated Lasell College, 11-0, and Bethel University, 13-4, Thursday at the PFX Athletics College Spring Games at Hancock Park.

Stout (9-1) made short work of Lasell, scoring in every inning as Meghan Kelly pitched a one-hitter, striking out four to get the win. Kelly allowed no walks as she faced only one over the minimum.

Rachel Thomas and Alicia Meyer each drove in three runs for the Blue Devils. Beth Wood had a pair of doubles in going 3-for-3 as Stout collected 14 hits. Meyer had a triple and was one of five Blue Devils to have at least two hits. Thomas, Meyer, Kelly and Katelyn Schobert each had two hits.

It took a little longer for the Blue Devils to defeat Bethel, but Stout parlayed a 7-4 lead after three innings into a 13-4 lead with a six-run fourth inning.

Pitcher Beth Wood got the fourth inning scoring started when she doubled in Kyncaide Diedrich, who had reached on a lead-off bunt single. Kaylee Francois delivered a three-run home run, her first of the season. AJ Klosterman stole home and Mary Iliopoulos brought home Jessica Daley.

Following a scoreless fifth inning, the game was called on the 8-run rule.

The Blue Devils rapped out 12 hits, and got doubles from Thomas, Wood, Meyer, Klosterman, Schobert and Daley. Iliopoulos was 2-for-2 with two runs scored and three RBI, popping a two-run home run - her second of the season -  in the third.

Wood picked up the win, scattering six hits and striking out a season-high six batters.

The Blue Devils will conclude their spring break trip Friday, March 16 when they face Westfield State and SUNY-Geneseo.
