Blue Devils steal win over Martin Luther College

MENOMONIE (December 3, 2018) - UW-Stout held Martin Luther College scoreless for the first five minutes of the second half, holding the Knights to 13 second half points, picked the Knights' pockets for 29 steals, and went on to a 75-34 win Monday on Dewey Mintz Court in Johnson Fieldhouse.
 
Stout (7-0) took a 45-21 halftime lead and outscored Martin Luther (0-7) 25-7 in the third quarter.
 
Stout had three players score in double digits, led by Bailey Diersen's (Sr, Greenville) double-double with 19 points and 10 steals. The last time a Stout player recorded 10 steals in a single game was when Heather Peterson had 10 steals against Hope College on Nov. 19, 1999. The school record for most steals in a game is 11, set by Cindy Hovet in 1991 against Marian College. The school record for most steals by the team was 35, set in 1997 against Buffalo State, which committed 46 turnovers in the game..
 
Kyncaide Diedrich (Sr, Athens) tossed in 14 points, pulled down nine rebounds and recorded seven assists.
 
Keysha Hazelton (So, Eau Claire) came off the bench to score a career-best 13 points, draining all three of her 3-point attempts. She matched her career-best of three points with a 3-pointer in the first half. Hazelton finished the night shooting 5 of 8 from the floor.

Kelsey Kainz (Jr, Thief River Falls, Minn)  recorded four steals, Hazelton, Liz Oswald (So, Watertown) and Becky Fesenmaier (Jr, Spring Valley0 three apiece, Maddy Otto (Fr, Cameron) two and Emily Jacques (Jr, Oshkosh) two. 
 
For the night, Stout shot 31 of 80 from the floor (38.8 percent), 11 of 30 from 3-point range (36.7 percent) and 2 of 8 from the line (25.0 percent).
 
Martin Luther's leading scorer was Faith Otte, who scored eight points. Emily Witkowski had seven points. The Knights were limited to 13 of 40 from the floor (32.5 percent).
 
Stout held a 45-35 advantage off the boards. Martin Luther committed 41 turnovers which led to 50 Stout points, but did lead in one positive category, collecting six blocked shots, two by Ruth Buchholz.
 
Stout will host Crown College, Friday, Dec. 7 and Ripon College, Tuesday, Dec. 11.
