St. John's University 4, UW-Stout 3
ST. CLOUD, Minn (November 3, 2018) - UW-Stout out-shot St. John's University, but the Johnnies scored three consecutive goals in about 12 minutes of game time to run past the Blue Devils, 4-3, at the Herb Brooks National Hockey Center Saturday.
The Johnnies (2-1-1) opened the scoring when Tanner Dufault scored at 7:48 of the second period.
The Blue Devils (2-2-0) answered back quickly when
Mathias Ahman scored at 10:47 of the second, getting assists from
Hunter Anderson and
Lucas Carroll to knot the score. Three minutes later,
Gavin Smith gave the Blue Devils a 2-1 lead, with an assist from
Alex Toscano.
St. John's tied the score with just over two minutes remaining in the period to start their three-goal assault when Brady Heppner scored. The Johnnies scored twice in the third period, on goals by Even Oakely at 6:18 and by Davis Kirkendall at 10:28 to go ahead 4-2.Â
With just over two minutes left to play, Stout pulled their goalie and with the extra attacker on the ice,
Arturas Laukaitis scored, with an assist by Carroll and
Conner Valesano. Stout pulled their goalie again 30 seconds later, but could not get the equalizer.
Stout held a 35-21 advantage in shots.
Tommi Ahlgren recorded 17 saves and the Johnnies' Mac Berglove notched 32 saves. Both teams went 0-for-4 on the power play.
Stout returns home for a pair of games, hosting St. Olaf College, Friday, Nov. 9 and Gustavus Adolphus, Saturday, Nov. 10.
