Blue Devils' Destache receives WFCA assistant coach of year award

GREEN BAY (January 30, 2018) - UW-Stout's Travis Destache received the Wisconsin Football Coaches Association (WFCA) WIAC DIII Co-Assistant Coach of the Year award Sunday during the 2017 WFCA All-State Football Banquet at the Lambeau Field Atrium.

The 2017 season marked the 11th season for Travis Destache at Stout and fifth as the Blue Devils' defensive coordinator.

During the 2017 season, the Stout defense led the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) in rushing defense, passing defense, total defense and opponent third down conversions.

Stout ranked nationally in the NCAA Division III, finishing 10th in red-zone defense and eighth in third down conversions allowed.  The Blue Devils also had four fourth down stops leading to their victory over fourth-ranked St. Thomas in September.

Seven Stout defensive players earned All-WIAC honors and defensive lineman Troy Rudesill earned first team Academic All-District.

Destache will be speaking at the WFCA Spring Football Clinic in Madison, Friday, March 23.

Destache resides in Baldwin with his wife, Mari, and their son, Jayce.

UW-La Crosse's Jacob Landry also received the WIAC DIII Co-Assistant Coach of the Year award and UW-Oshkosh's Pat Cerroni received the WIAC DIII Head Coach of the Year award. Lakeland College's Colin Bruton was the Wisconsin Private Colleges Head Coach of the Year. The WFCA also handed out college player of the year awards and recognized high school players from around the state.
