MENOMONIE (January 19, 2018) - UW-Stout did all it could to claw its way back to even, but St. Mary's University found the upper hand as the Cardinals defeated the Blue Devils 7-4 at the Fanetti Community Center. Stout tied the game up after being down three goals, but St. Mary's next three goals came out to be the deciding factor.
In the first period of the contest, Stout (5-11-2) had five shots on goal in the first four minutes, while St. Mary's did not record a shot on net. But that didn't stop the Cardinals (5-10-2) from getting on the board first. On the second shot of the game for the Cardinals, St. Marys' Kyle Meeh scored his fifth goal of the season to make the game 1-0 in just under six minutes.
In just five minutes and their third shot, St. Mary's would score again. The Cardinals' Jack Stang scored on Stout's
Evan Bisek. The goal is Stang's fifth goal of the season. The Cardinals were not done scoring as Jude Warner scored his second goal of the season to make the score 3-0 going into the first intermission.

Mathias Ahman found the back of the net at the 1:36 mark of the second period. It is Ahman's 11th goal of the season to make the score 3-1.
Jonathan Marzec got an assist on the play.
The Cardinal's Andrew Cummings scored just four minutes after. It was a very unfamiliar goal as a Stout player tried to pass it out of the zone and it hit Cummings' skate and got through Bisek's pad.
On a five-on-three in favor of the Blue Devils,
Kyle Sylvester found the back of the net for this third goal of the season.
Evan Butcher and

It was a wild second period that featured 11 penalties.
It didn't take long for the Blue Devils to get within one goal. Stout's
Austin Jackson scored his second goal of the season, with
Hunter Anderson getting an assist.
After the Blue Devil's goal, the game saw a four-on-four. Stout's
Kyle Sylvester chipped one out of the Stout zone and
Adam Kresl saw himself on a breakaway. Kresl made a deke and got the puck in the net for his second goal of the season to make it even at 4-4.
With momentum going the Blue Devils' way, St. Mary's Jude Warner capitalized to make the game 5-4. The goal would be enough, but the Cardinals scored another two goals to end the game at 7-4.
St. Mary's goaltender Nick Nast recorded the win and saved 28 shots. Stout's Bisek saved 23 shots that came his way
The game ended with 17 total penalties. Total shots for each team were 32 for UW-Stout and 30 for St. Mary's
