Stout earns a pair of sweeps at Oshkosh Invite

OSHKOSH (September 8, 2017) - UW-Stout earned a pair of sweeps on the first day of the UW-Oshkosh Pizza Hut Classic Friday. The Blue Devils defeated Lawrence University, 3-0, and Benedictine University, 3-0.

Stout defeated Lawrence 25-12, 25-15, 25-23 and Benedictine 25-21, 25-23, 25-17.

Kennedy Strain (Jr, Elk River, Minn) recorded more kills than the entire Lawrence squad, putting down 15 kills with only three errors for a hitting percentage of .387. The Vikings, in contrast, recorded 11 total kills with a hitting percentage of .013. 

Stout (3-3) finished with 37 kills and a team hitting percentage of .255. Jessica DuVal (So, Logan, Iowa) recorded 31 assists. Stout notched eight service aces with Emily Makina (So, Orland Park, Ill) finishing with four.

Strain stayed hot in the win over Benedictine with 12 kills. Freshman Emili Cain (Fr, Corcoran, Minn) had eight kills and two solo blocks. For the second straight match, Stout recorded eight service aces with Strain dropping in three and Carissa Hilgers (Jr, Minnetonka, Minn) with three. 

The Blue Devils (3-3) will close out the tournament with a single match against Concordia-Wisconsin, Saturday, Sept. 9.
