MENOMONIE (September 30, 2017) - UW-Stout goalie
Lynn Johnson recorded 16 saves, including five in the overtime periods, as UW-Stout forged a 1-1, double overtime tie with 12th ranked UW-Whitewater Saturday at Nelson Field.
Â
Johnson, who was returning after missing the last three-plus games due to injury, allowed one goal, that coming in the 24th minute by Anna Boyd on a breakaway.
Â
The Warhawks (7-1-3, 0-0-1 WIAC) held a 1-0 halftime lead, but Stout (3-4-2, 0-0-1 WIAC) got on the board when
Bella Pedlar scored off a deflection in the 71st minute.
Â
Johnson was stellar throughout the game, making three first half saves, eight in the second, three in the third and two in the fourth.
Â
The tie snapped a losing streak to the Warhawks that dates back to the 2012 season. Stout last defeated UW-Whitewater during the 2011 season, Blue Devil head coach
Ryan Raufus' first season at Stout.
"Across the field, competed well in the air," said Raufus. "And Lynn played a solid game. She was super clean with all of her saves. She had the angles down. She put herself in position to minimize their attack."
The Blue Devils will be at UW-River Falls, Wednesday, Oct. 4 for a 4 p.m. contest.
