Mount St. Mary College 3, UW-Stout 2 (OT)
BALTIMORE, Md. (September 3, 2017) - UW-Stout recorded more overall shots, held an advantage in total saves, and racked up more corner kicks, but it all comes down to goals and the Blue Devils dropped an overtime decision, 3-2, to Mount St. Mary College Sunday at the Johns Hopkins Invitational.
A day earlier against nationally ranked Johns Hopkins, the Blue Devils were held to one shot on the afternoon. It was a different story today.
Stout (0-2) outshot Mount St. Mary (1-0-1) by a slim 12-11 margin, but the Knights put eight shots on frame to Stout's four.
Mount Saint Mary's Maeve O'Sullivan broke loose down the middle and put the Knights up in the 28th minute.
The Blue Devils evened the score when
Sarah Dickmann (So, Shawano) punched through a penalty kick in the 34th minute, then took the lead in the 44th minute when defender
Nikki Sedivy (Sr, ) finished off a pass from
Hannah Kirchner (So, ) and put the ball into the upper right corner to take a 2-1 lead into the intermission.
The Knights knotted the game in the 89th minute when Miranda Fennessy took a pass from Bridget McKeever in a two-on-one.
Mount St. Mary would take the win at 96:14 when Nicole Cavallo collected Claire Newman's rebound off Blue Devil goalkeeper
Lynn Johnson and scored.
"We need to do a better job finishing off the game," Blue Devil coach
Ryan Raufus said.
The Blue Devils had six corner kicks to none for the nights. Johnson recorded five saves. The Knights' Mary Riley started the contest and had one save and Molly Jensen played the final 28 minutes to get the win, making a single save.
Stout returns to Wisconsin for the start of classes this week and will host Carleton College, Friday, Sept. 8 at 5 p.m.
