UW-Stout 3, Hamline University 2
ST. PAUL, Minn (September 26, 2017) -
Sydney Kasper (Jr, Owatonna, Minn) scored two goals including the game winner with 15 minutes remaining and
Bethany Hennen (Jr, Apple Valley, Minn) recorded her second win in goal as UW-Stout defeated Hamline University, 3-2, Tuesday.
Kasper scored her fourth goal of the season, scoring unassisted in the 76th minute to give Stout (3-4-1) the win, their second consecutive win, and their second consecutive game with Hennen in goal. The Blue Devil defense did not allow a shot the rest of the way.
Hamline (5-3-1) scored the first goal of the contest when Ellie Baxter scored on a pass from Brittany Beckman in the 23rd minute.
But the Blue Devils wasted little time knotting the score up. Kasper accepted a pass from
Ryanne Millis (So, Shakopee, Minn) in the 29th minute on the right side and put the ball in the back of the net.
Hamline recaptured the lead eight minutes into the second half on a goal from Arendje Louter.
Bethany Hanson (Sr, Coon Rapids, Minn), who has recorded 12 shots on net over the last three games, tied the score at 2-2 for the Blue Devils less than two minutes later, getting an assist from
Kaitlyn Hess (Fr, Wisconsin Rapids) in the 55th minute.
Hennen was called on as the team's emergency goalie for the second consecutive game, and recorded six saves on the day. The Blue Devils lost goalies
Lynn Johnson (So, Shakopee, Minn) a week ago and
Rachel Nowak (Fr, Lomira) last weekend. Hennen got her first collegiate win Saturday against Viterbo University, then followed that up today with her first complete game in net.
Kasper has also come alive offensively over the last three games, where she has scored three goals. In the previous five games, Kasper, the team's leading scorer in 2016, had a goal and three assists.
The Blue Devils will open WIAC play Saturday, Sept. 30 when they host 12th ranked UW-Whitewater at 2 p.m. at Nelson Field.
