UW-Stout 1, Viterbo University 0
LA CROSSE (September 23, 2017) - UW-Stout (2-4-2) only needed one score to win the contest against Viterbo University.
Kaitlyn Hess scored on a header on a cross from
Hannah Kirchner.Â
Bethany Hennen, who is normally a midfielder, was pressed into duty as a goalkeeper after an injury forced
Rachel Nowak out of the game for the last 70 minutes. Hennen recorded the shutout victory after making three saves. Nowak made one save before leaving the game.
Hennen held the V-Hawks scoreless in her first collegiate time in the goal. Hess got the winner in the 82nd minute.
The time in net was the first for Hennen during any competitive soccer game. Hennen took about three to four minutes of warm-ups before going into the contest with about 20 minutes off the clock.
The Blue Devils have one more non-conference game against Hamline University in St. Paul on Tuesday, Sept. 26 before heading into WIAC play. UW-Stout is set to play WIAC pre-season favorites UW-Whitewater at home on Saturday, Sept. 30.Â
