MORRIS, Minn/ST. PAUL, Minn (April 23, 2017) - UW-Stout wrapped up the 2016-17 season by winning a blowout match and a nailbiter, making a trip across the state of Minnesota Sunday.
The Blue Devils started the day off in western Minnesota and blanked Minnesota-Morris, 9-0, in a 9 a.m. match, then hopped into their van, traveled across the state to the Twin Cities where they edged past Hamline University in a 5-4 win.
Linsey Thisius proved to be the difference in the Hamline match. Playing at No. 1 singles and the score tied at 4-4, Thisius came back from a first set loss to win the match in a tiebreaker, 3-6, 7-5, 10-4 over Jordan Danielson.
Gabe Kelch at No. 6 singles had to rally back for the win. After winning the first set over Emily Butts, 6-0, Kelch lost the second set, 6-2, and needed a 10-5 tiebreaker set.
Jenna Welke won at No. 4 singles, 6-3, 7-6 (7-5).
Welke and Thisius won a longer match at No. 1 doubles, winning 9-7.
Katie Kreibich and
Annie Sandry won 8-1 at No. 2 doubles.
In the breakfast match, the Blue Devils swept the match with five of six matches ending in two sets.
Emily Parsons had the most challenging match at No. 5 singles, winning 6-2, 4-6, 13-11.
The Blue Devils finished the season at 8-8 overall.
