Stout falls in both ends of doubleheader at Lake Forest

LAKE FOREST, Ill (March 24, 2017) - Jessica Daley (Fr, Streamwood, Ill) drove in a run in the top of the seventh to give UW-Stout a 4-3 lead, but host Lake Forest College scored three runs in the bottom of the seven to defeat the Blue Devils 6-4 in game one and carried the momentum to an 8-2 second game win over Stout Friday.

With the score tied at 3-3 heading into the top of the seventh, Kaitlyn Schobert (Fr, Belmont) reached on a lead-off infield single, then moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by Kyndaide Diedrich (Fr, Athens). Following an out, Schobert scored when Daley drove a ball into left field.

But Lake Forest (7-7) answered back when Kat Beall drove in a run, then came home when Abby King lifted a home run to end the game.

Stout (6-8) opened the game with a two-run first inning. Daley reached on a one out single, then scored when Beth Wood (Jr, Mineral Point) reached on an error. Wood scored on Alicia Meyer's (So, Brooklyn Park, Minn) single. The Foresters scored single runs in the first, third and fourth innings to take a 3-2 lead. Mariah Diercks (Sr, Ellsworth) drove in a run in the sixth to tie the score at 3-3.

Daley was 2-for-4 with an RBI for Stout (6-8) and Meyer was 2-for-3 with an RBI. Beall was 2-for-4 and Haylee Sherlund was 2-for-3 for Lake Forest.

The Foresters scored four runs on five hits in the bottom of the first inning of the nightcap. Stout cut the gap to 4-1 on a lead off home run in the fourth inning.

Lake Forest got the run back in the bottom of the fourth before Stout scored again in the fifth inning on Diedrich's RBI single. Lake Forest scored three runs in the bottom of the sixth to close out the scoring. Stout recorded six hits, while Lake Forest notched 16.

Stout stays in the Chicago area and are scheduled to meet Concordia-Illinois and Elmhurst College Sunday, March 26 at 10 a.m. and noon respectively in Bandit Stadium in Rosemont, Ill.
