Stout finishes southern swing with offensive explosion

Westminster College 10, UW-Stout 2, (5 inn) | UW-Stout 12, Westminster College 0 (5 inn)

NORTH MYRTLE BEACH, SC (March 18, 2017) - UW-Stout ended their week in South Carolina with a bang with a 12-0, five inning, shutout win over Westminster, Mo, College at the Fastpitch Dreams Spring Classic Saturday. The win was a reversal of the first game of the doubleheader where the Blue Jays upended the Blue Devils, 10-2, in five innings.

In the win over the Blue Jays (4-8), the Blue Devils (6-6) scored in every inning of the shortened game, including a big six run second inning. Kaylee Francois deliverd the first big blow of the game when her triple delivered Katelyn Schobert and Kaitlin Murray, who had reached with back-to-back singles. Kyncaide Diedrich drove in Francois. Jessica Daley, Beth Wood and Heather Bol also drove in a run.

Stout scored three runs in the third inning, highlighted by Diedrich's two run triple, scoring Murray and Francois. Rachel Thomas plated Diedrich with a sacrifice fly.

Schobert brought in a run in the fourth with a sacrifice fly in the fourth. Thomas scored on an error in the fifth inning.

Wood recorded the win, teaming with freshman Christel Weltzin for the shutout win, doing it without recording a strikeout. Daley, Murray and Diedrich each had two hits. Diedrich drove in three runs, Francois and Heather Bol two.

In the opener, it was the Blue Jays that showed some prowess with the bat. With a little help from the Blue Devils, who committed five errors, Westminster scored all of their runs in the first two innings, getting four in the first and six in the second.

Stout two runs came in the third inning as Schobert led off the inning with a double and Diedrich's triple brought her home. Diedrich scored on a passed ball.

The Blue Devils return home and will return to action when they travel to Lake Forest College, Saturday, March 25.
