NORTH MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (March 14, 2017) - UW-Stout's offense made a grand appearance on a sometimes sunny, sometimes cloudy, cold spring day in Myrtle Beach as the Blue Devils rolled up a combined 27 runs to take down Franciscan University, 9-4, and the College of Mount St. Vincent, 18-0 in five innings Tuesday.
The Blue Devils (3-3) shared the wealth in the win over Franciscan with eight different players driving in a run. Stout got on the board first after
Rachel Thomas opened the Blue Devils' inning with a triple, then scored on an illegal pitch.
But the big blow came in the fifth inning after Franciscan tied the score in the fourth. The Blue Devils piled up seven runs in the inning. Franciscan cut into the lead with two runs in the sixth, Stout added a run in the sixth and Franciscan finished with a run in the seventh.
Kyncaide Diedrich made her pitching debut, going the distance, scattering seven hits and striking out three.
While there were enough fireworks to go around in game two,
Alicia Meyer stole the show going 2-for-3 and drove in six runs, recording her first career grand slam in the second inning.
Heather Bol reached all four teams she was at the plate and drove in four runs, while scoring three times.
Kaylee Francois scored three runs and drove in three runs.
Rachel Thomas was 4-for-5 and scored three runs.
Highlighted by Meyer's grand slam, Stout scored seven runs in the second inning, tacked on six in the third and four in the fourth to effectively end the game in five innings on the 8-run rule.
Beth Wood went the full five innings, helping her own cause by going 3-for-3 with two RBI, striking out four and scattering six runs. The Blue Devil offense tracked out 18 hits.
Stout returns to action Wednesday, March 15 to take on Alfred State College and Bay Path College.
