Skidmore College 2, UW-Stout 1
FORT MYERS, Fla (March 14, 2017) - UW-Stout stranded 12 runners in a 2-1 loss to Skidmore College Tuesday at the Gene Cusic Classic. The Blue Devils connected for six hits, drew four walks, reached twice on errors and were hit by pitch twice, but could only get one runner across home plate.
Matt Emmer remained hot for the Blue Devils, going 2-for-4 with the Blue Devils' lone RBI. Trailing 2-0 in the top of the eighth,
Jordan Wilson drew a lead-off walk then moved to second on a passed ball. Emmer delivered Wilson home with a single. Emmer was moved to second on
Joel Hollow's sacrifice bunt, but was stranded.
The Thoroughbreds, who stranded eight runners, scored an unearned run in the second inning and added another in the fifth inning. Pat Geiger was 3-for-4 with an RBI for Skidmore (3-2).
Of the 12 Stout (2-7) runners left on base, eight of them were in scoring position.
Luke Eide took the loss, allowing no earned runs, scattering five hits and striking out five. Skidmore's Jay Gamboa went seven innings, allowing no earned runs, scattering six hits and striking out six.
Hollow was 2-for-3 with a sacrifice bunt, playing out of the designated hitter spot. Both Emmer and Hollow have thrived in Florida. Hollow came south with no collegiate hits to his name, but has collected five to move his average up to .417. Emmer has had at least two hits - three Monday against Wisconsin Lutheran - in the three Florida games, jumping his average to a team-best .571.
Stout returns to action Wednesday, March 15 and will face Lasell College at noon (ET).
