Wisconsin Lutheran College 8, UW-Stout 6
FORT MEYERS, Fla. (March 13, 2017) - UW-Stout kept coming back, but could never quite get over the crest of the mountain and the Blue Devils lost to Wisconsin Lutheran, 8-6, Monday at the Gene Cusic Classic.
The teams were tied after two innings, with the both teams scoring twice in the inning. The Warriors brought in a pair of runs in the top half of the inning on a two-run double by catcher Brett Jakel.
Stout (2-6) answered back by scrapping out two runs in the bottom half of the inning.
Jon Krueger hit a one-out single and scored on
Matt Emmer's double. Emmer came home on
Joel Hollow's single and the score was tied.
The Warriors (1-0) put up a pair of runs in the top of the fourth when KJ Banse plated two with a single. The Blue Devils got one run back in the bottom of the fourth when
Jordan Wilson singled, then moved on Krueger's infield out. Emmer picked up his second of three hits on the day to move Wilson to third. Hollow's single drove in Wilson and the score was 4-3. Wisconsin Lutheran made it 6-3 in the fifth.
Stout added single runs in both the sixth and seventh innings to pull to within one run, 6-5. Emmer recorded a sacrifice fly in the sixth and
Sam Waters groundout to second scored a run in the seventh inning.
Lutheran scored twice in the eighth on a double by Banse and a sacrifice fly by Curtis Engelbrecht.
Stout scored one last time in the eight. Emmer notched a two-out double, moved to third on a passed ball and scored on Hollow's groundout.
Emmer had his finest day as a Blue Devil, going 3-for-3 with two RBI and two runs scored. Hollow also had his best game at the plate as a Blue Devil, going 3-for-4 with three RBI.
Banse was 3-for-5 with three RBI for the Warriors and Jakel was 3-for-4 with three RBI.
The Blue Devils return to action Tuesday, March 14 when they meet Skidmore College at 3 p.m. (ET).
