UW-Stevens Point 6, UW-Stout 1
STEVENS POINT (February 3, 2017) - UW-Stevens Point scored the first three goals of the game over the first 18 minutes of the game, before Stout scored their only goal of the game 12 seconds before the end of the first period. The Pointers went on to a 6-1 WIAC win.
The fifth-ranked Pointers (15-4-3, 4-1-0 WIAC) got on the board first when Kyle Sharkey scored at 7:03 in the first, then added to their lead on a short-handed goal by Willem Nong-Lambert at 13:49. Lawrence Cornelius scored his first goal of the night at 18:01.
The Blue Devils (10-11-2, 2-4-0 WIAC) got on the board before the end of the first period when
Mathias Ahman scored on the power play at 19:48, with an assist by
Joe Kleven.
Following a scoreless second period, the Pointers' Cornelius scored his second goal of the night at 3:15 in the third. Tanner Karty scored unassisted at 12:10 and Austin Kelly scored on an unassisted power play at 17:34.
The Pointers outshot Stout 44-23.
Spencer Viele stopped 18 shots in the first period and 16 in the second to finish with 38 saves. The Pointers' Max Milosek recorded 22 saves.
The teams will meet again, this time in Menomonie, Friday, Feb. 10 at 7:30 p.m. Stout will close out the regular season Saturday, Feb. 11 when they host UW-River Falls.
