MENOMONIE (February 15, 2017) - UW-Stout met a strong defensive front from UW-La Crosse in Johnson Fieldhouse Wednesday, as they fell to the Eagles, 72-50, on Senior Day. Lone Blue Devils senior
Jenna Goldsmith finished with 12 points and four rebounds in her final game on Dewey Mintz Court.
Stout (7-17, 3-10 WIAC) was out shot in the game by only three baskets, but shot only 32 percent from the field, compared to La Crosse's (14-10, 8-5 WIAC) 46 percent, including five 3-pointers.
The Blue Devils started strong, taking a 6-2 lead early in the first quarter after two free throws from Goldsmith, but found themselves down by eight after a 12-0 run by the Eagles. The second half was much of the same, with the Blue Devils down by 10 at halftime, 34-24.
The Blue Devils got to within five, 38-33, after another Goldsmith basket, assisted by
Kyncaide Diedrich. The Eagles would go on another big run throughout the third and fourth quarters to expand their lead and come away with the road win, 72-50.
Diedrich scored 11 and dropped three assists, while
Anna Brown added 10 points and grabbed three rebounds.
Carolyn Feddema grabbed nine rebounds and scored six points as well.
The Eagles' MaKenzie Miller scored a game high 26 points, including her 1000th career point.
The Blue Devils will play their final contest of the season on Saturday, February 18, at UW-Oshkosh at 7 p.m..
