Blue Devils come up short in bid for tournament berth

UW-Oshkosh 71, UW-Stout 53

OSHKOSH (February 18, 2017) - Heading into tonight's game at UW-Oshkosh, UW-Stout fully well knew they would have to come up with a win over the conference champion to earn a spot in the WIAC tournament next week.

The Titans (23-2, 13-1 WIAC) flew out of the gates and squashed the Blue Devils' chances by outscoring Stout 22-5 in the first quarter. Stout spent the rest of the night running uphill and lost 71-53 at Kolf Sports Center. Stout (7-18, 3-11 WIAC) would only get as close as 15 points during the game and the season came to a halt.

But not without at least one good note. Blue Devil senior Jenna Goldsmith needed 11 points to reach 1000 career points and the post player scored her final collegiate points midway through the fourth quarter, finishing the night with 12 points and 1001 career points. Goldsmith and Bailey Diersen led the Blue Devils with 12 points. Goldsmith added nine rebounds. This season, Goldsmith scored in double digits in all 14 conference games. Goldsmith is the 10th Blue Devil woman to break the 1000 point barrier, and is 10th on the all-time list.

The Titans got a game-high 13 points from Eliza Campbell. The Titans' bench produced more than half of Oshkosh's points, tallying 37 points. Kylie Moe came off the bench to score 12 points.

Oshkosh, as the top seed in the tournament, will have a first round bye.
