MENOMONIE (December 10, 2017) - UW-Stout forced 12 first half turnovers that allowed the Blue Devils to take a 14-point halftime lead, then Stout controlled the rebounding game in the second half to run away from Finlandia University, 84-57, Sunday on Dewey Mintz Court in Johnson Fieldhouse.

The Blue Devils' (6-3) pressure game forced the Lions (2-5) into numerous first half turnovers that Stout converted to points and freshman Joe Duty scored 10 first half points.

After a relatively even first half off the glass, Stout controlled the boards in the second half and finished the game with a 41-30 advantage in rebounds. The Blue Devils had six players pull down four or more rebounds.

Duty and teammate Isaac Elliott finished with a game-high 19 points. Elliott scored 16 of his points in the second half. Zach Dahl popped in 17 points and Sam Ortmann scored 10. Ortmann and Duty each had six rebounds and Dahl and Elliott each recorded five.

Stout jumped out to a 7-0 lead to open the game and built the lead to as much as 14 points, 26-12, with seven minutes left in the half. The Lions went on a 9-0 run to get to within five points, 26-21, at the 4:54 mark. Stout closed off the half on a 9-0 run of their own, to lead 35-21 at halftime.

Finlandia scored the first points of the second half, but Stout catapulted to an 18-points, 44-26 lead with just over four minutes off the second half clock. Finlandia would get no closer that 13 points the rest of the way.

The Blue Devils shot 45.5 percent (30-66) for the game from the floor, 38.1 percent (8-21) from 3-point range and 69.6 percent (16-23) from the line. The Lions shot 37.3 percent (19-51) from the floor, 35.0 percent (7-20) from 3-point range and 85.7 percent (12-14) from the line. Finlandia did not attempt a free throw in the first half.

Stout is off until a trip to Spokane, Wash., where they will face host Whitworth College, Friday, Dec. 29, and the University of Puget Sound, Saturday, Dec. 30. Stout will open the WIAC season when they host UW-Platteville, Wednesday, Jan. 3 at 7 p.m.
