Blue Devil get back on winning side, down Gusties 5-3

ST. PETER, Minn. (November 11, 2017) - Five different UW-Stout players scored goals and the Blue Devils went on to a 5-3 win over Gustavus Adolphus College, 5-3, Saturday at Don Roberts Ice Rink.

The Blue Devils (2-3-1) jumped out to a 2-0 lead, scoring twice in the first period with Mathias Ahman scoring at 6:01 and Jack Forbort doubled the score at 16:18.

Gustavus (2-3-1) answered back less than a minute into the second period on a goal by Van Sullivan, but Connor Chambers counted the goal for Stout, scoing at 10:37 of the second to give Stout a 3-1 lead. The Gusties cut into the lead on a shorthanded goal by Caleb Anderson at 17:59.

Stout countered midway through the third period, stretching the lead to 4-2 on a goal by Evan Butcher at 12:43. Stout added to the lead at 18:45 when Konnar Dechaine scored an empty net goal. The Gusties scored just before the end of the game with an extra attacker on the ice eight seconds before the end of the game.

The Blue Devils' Hunter Anderson was awarded three assists on the night, helping out Ahman, Chambers and Butcher. Alex Toscano, Kyle Sylvester, Gavin Smith and Joe Kleven each recorded one assist.

Tommi Ahlgren notched his first win of the season, recording 22 saves, including 12 in the second period. The Gusties Isaak Tjaden had 25 saves.

Both teams went 0-for-5 on the power play. Stout outshot Gustavus, 30-25. The win snapped a three-game losing streak for the Blue Devils.

Stout will return home for a pair of games, hosting Lawrence University, Friday, Nov. 17 at 7 p.m. and Marian University, Saturday, Nov. 18 at 7 p.m.
