MENOMONIE (November 7, 2017) - Four different UW-Stout players scored Friday night and two scored two goals at the Fanetti Community Center in as UW-Stout (3-3-1) defeated Lawrence University (2-3-0), 6-4.
Hunter Anderson scored his first goal of the season scoring at 10:58 of the first period with an assist from
Tom Schmidt. The Blue Devils would also score with 23 seconds left of the first period as
Conner Valesano would score from the hash marks with assists from
Alex Toscano and
Jack Forbort.
In the second period, Lawrence University took a five minute major for slashing. The penalty would let the Blue Devils score two power play goals by
Alex Toscano and
Mathias Ahman within a minute of each other to make it 4-0 in favor of the Blue Devils. Anderson would then score his second goal of the night to give the Blue Devils a 5-0 lead. Lawrence University notched a goal of their own on a power play to make it 5-1, scored by Josh Koepplinger.
After a clean first period by both teams, there would be seven penalties in the second period, four for the Vikings and three for the Blue Devils. Lawrence University would take two five minute majors.
In the the third period, Toscano scored his second goal of the night on a power play, giving the Blue Devils three power play goals and a 6-1 lead. Lawrence University did not quit and scored three goals in the next twelve minutes to make the score 6-4 with 6:34 remaining in the game. UW-Stout would halt the score by good defense and goaltending to end the game 6-4.
The game consisted of 11 penalties, five for the Blue Devils and six for Lawrence University.
Tommi Ahlgren would finish the game with 28 saves. Anderson and Toscano would each score twice in the game. The Blue Devils outshot Lawrence University, 33-32
UW-Stout will be at home again at the Fanetti Community Center tomorrow night, hosting Marian University at 7 p.m.
