UW-Oshkosh 3, UW-Stout 2
OSHKOSH (October 28, 2017) - UW-Stout won the first two sets, but UW-Oshkosh came roaring to back to sweep the final three as the Titans defeated the Blue Devils, 3-2, Saturday evening at Kolf Sports Center.
The Blue Devils (9-19, 2-5 WIAC) took the opening sets, 26-24, 25-19, but the Titans (19-14, 3-4 WIAC) to bump Stout to the sixth seed in the WIAC tournament, which opens Tuesday, Oct. 31.
The teams came into the final conference game of the season tied with identical 2-4 conference records. The winner would get the fifth seed, the loser the sixth seed. Stout will play at third seed UW-Whitewater beginning at 7 p.m. The Blue Devils took the Warhawks to five sets Oct. 13 in Menomonie, falling 16-14 in the final set.
In the opening set, Stout trailed 23-18, but went on an 8-1 run to win the set. Stout trailed only briefly in the second set, but never led in the third set. Stout took a 7-1 lead in the fourth set, but the Titans came back to tie the set at 11 apiece. The Titans jumped out in front 18-12 and went on to the win. Stout tied the final set at 12 each, but the Titans rolled off the final three points for the set and the match.
The Titans' Samantha Jaeke led all scorers with 15 kills, 17 assists and 11 digs. Tina Elstner added 11 kills.
The Blue Devils got 15 kills from
Kennedy Strain and 13 from
Ashley Pratt and 10 from
Emili Cain. Stout finished the night with three solo blocks and 24 assisted blocks. Pratt had a solo block and eight assisted blocks.
The teams were nearly even at the service line, with Stout recorded 10 aces and the Titans 11.
Emily Makina had four aces for Stout and
Carissa Hilgers contributed three. McKenna Micech had four aces and Shelby Coron three.
