MENOMONIE (October 28, 2017) - UW-Stout answered UW-Eau Claire in a hurry and went on to a 2-1 win over the Blugolds in the annual "Battle of the Blues" game Saturday at Nelson Field.

In the final WIAC match of the season, the Blugolds (5-11-1, 2-5-0 WIAC) opened the scoring in the 16th minute on a goal by Mercedes Wilson.

But the Blue Devils (8-5-5, 3-1-3 WIAC) evened the score three minutes later when Kaitlyn Hess crossed the ball to Sydney Kasper who headed to Sarah Dickmann and Dickmann buried the shot.

Stout took the lead in the 25th minute when Ryanne Millis played a through ball to Hess, who scored her sixth goal of the season.

Lynn Johnson recorded four saves for Stout and Anna Sveiven had one save for Eau Claire. The Blugolds outshot Stout, 7-5.

The win gave Stout the traveling trophy in the Battle of the Blues between the schools for the first time since the trophy game was initiated in 2014. The win snapped a four-game losing streak to Eau Claire. The win extended Stout unbeaten streak to six games.

Stout will host a WIAC playoff game, Tuesday, Oct. 31 and will play UW-Stevens Point at 2 p.m. The teams tied 1-1 in Menomonie, Oct. 8.
