Hockey team opens season with 2-1 win over first-year Trine

UW-Stout 2, Trine University 1

ANGOLA, Ind (October 27, 2017) - In a night of firsts for the Trine University hockey team, it was UW-Stout that came away with that most important first - the first win of of the season as the Blue Devils defeated the Thunder 2-1 Friday.

The game marked the first varsity men's game for Trine University (0-1-0) and the Thunder's first varsity score by Josh Hinterliter midway through the second period gave Trine their first-ever varsity lead.

But the Blue Devils' Dylan Zins (Jr, Prior Lake, Minn) scored three minutes later as Trine gave up their first goal in school history and Stout's (1-0-0) first goal of the season. Zins was assisted on the goal by transfer Connor Chambers (So, Pequot Lakes, Minn), who scored his first point as a Blue Devil, and Jack Forbort (So, Duluth, Minn).

The Thunder fell behind for the first time of the season when Forbort scored, with assists by Hunter Anderson and Zins, with six minutes left in the contest.

Trine, playing in their new arena, out-shot the Blue Devils, 34-23, but Stout senior Etienne Roy (Saint-Henri, Quebec) turned away 33 shots to earn the first win of the season, and his second career win. The Thunders' Brett Young had 21 saves.

The Blue Devils will be at Aurora University, Saturday, Oct. 28 for a 7 p.m. contest. Stout will open the home season Friday, Nov. 3 when they host Concordia-Moorhead at 7 p.m.
