EAU CLAIRE (October 25, 2017) - After UW-Eau Claire had downed UW-Stout in the first two sets, the Blue Devils did bounce back in the third set, but still fell in three sets at McPhee Center Wednesday.
The Blugolds (14-10, 5-1 WIAC) defeated Stout 25-18, 25-12 in the first two rounds, but Stout showed signs of life, leading most of the set as freshmen
Amber Ripley and
Emili Cain led Stout's attack. Ripley put down five kills in the third set and Cain scored four. Both finished the match with a team-high nine kills.
Stout (9-18, 2-4 WIAC) did run up to a 21-18 third set lead, but Eau Claire finished off the match on a 7-2 run to win the night with a 25-23 finale.
Eau Claire's Madelyn Pashibin led all players with 16 kills and Jessica Coyne added 13. The Blugolds hit at a .301 clip, while Stout hit .176.
Stout will close the regular season by traveling to UW-Oshkosh, Saturday, Oct. 28 for a 6 p.m. meet. The teams are tied for fifth place. The winner of the match will earn the fifth seed in the tournament, while the loser will be the sixth seed. The WIAC Championship first round is Tuesday, Oct. 31.
