Blue Devils climb into third place with win over Platteville

PLATTEVILLE (October 21, 2017) - UW-Stout climbed into third place in the WIAC with one game left to play with a 1-0 win over UW-Platteville Saturday at Pioneer Stadium.

Following a scoreless first half, Kaitlyn Hess (Fr, Wisconsin Rapids) scored her fifth goal of the season, getting an assist from Hannah Kirchner (So, La Crosse) in the 72nd minute. Kirchner received a through ball from Sydney Kasper (Jr, Owatonna, Minn), took a single touch and crossed the ball on the ground to Hess.

The Blue Devil (7-5-5, 2-1-3 WIAC) defense had another good effort, holding the Pioneers (7-9-0, 0-5-0 WIAC) to six overall shots and four shots on net. The Blue Devils punched out 10 shots with seven shots on frame. Hess and Sarah Dickmann (So, Shawano) each had two shots on net. Stout put four shots on net in the first half and three in the second half.

Lynn Johnson (So, Shakopee, Minn) finished with four saves and ran her record to 5-4-4. The Blue Devils held a slight edge in corner kicks, 6-4.

After a 1-4-0 start to the season, the Blue Devils have gone 6-1-5 over the last 12 games. Stout has an unbeaten streak of five games, with three consecutive wins in their last three outings.

Stout will conclude the regular season when they host UW-Eau Claire, Saturday, Oct. 28 at 2 p.m. at Nelson Field.
