MENOMONIE (October 18, 2017) -
Ryanne Millis (So, Shakopee, Minn) beat the goalie to the ball and scored the only goal of the game and the UW-Stout defense snuffed out any attempts by Macalester College as the Blue Devils defeated the Scots, 1-0, Wednesday at Nelson Field.
With the Macalester goalie coming out, Millis got to the loose ball, dribbled around the goalie and delivered the shot - her second goal of the season - in the 76th minute to lift Stout to their first home win of the season. Stout had previously played to five tied scores at Nelson Field.
The Blue Devil (6-5-5) team defense was solid this cool, breezy fall evening, holding the Scots (5-6-3) to only four shots on the night and three shots on goal.
"To hold them to four shots, our team defense was good tonight," Stout coach
Ryan Raufus said. "We were able to play with intensity and we were able to maintain that intensity.
"Overall, it was a good effort, especially on the tail end of playing four games in five days."
Stout's offense delivered 11 overall shots and the majority were on target, finishing with nine shots on net. The Scots' Rachel Wilson-King stopped eight shots. Stout's
Lynn Johnson (So, Shakopee, Minn) recorded three saves to get her second consecutive shutout and her fourth on the season.
Stout had played two games over the weekend - both tied games - and defeated St. Mary's Tuesday night, 1-0, in Winona, Minn.
The game schedule for Stout lightens up with only two games remaining, but both are conference games. The Blue Devils are at UW-Platteville, Saturday, Oct. 21, and close out the regular season, Saturday, Oct. 28 by hosting UW-Eau Claire.
