ST. PAUL, Minn. (January 6, 2017) -
Adam Kresl (Fr, Eagle River) scored with 21 seconds remaining in the overtime period to lift UW-Stout to a 2-1 win over Hamline University Friday.
Kresl scored the game-winner on assists from
Justin Moody (Sr, Grand Forks, ND) and
Shayne McLaughlin (Sr, Eau Claire).
A goal by McLaughlin in the third period knotted the score at 1-1 at 11:51 to send the game into overtime, with
Gavin Smith (So, Savage, Minn) on the assist. The Blue Devils'
Spencer Viele (Sr, Wildwood, Mo) turned away 35 shots during the game, including 14 in the second period.
After a scoreless first period, Hamline scored the first goal of the night with less than four minutes remaining in the second period when Jake O'Borsky slipped the only shot of the night past Viele. O'Borsky was assisted by Jaycob McCombs and Mitch Hall.
While the Blue Devil (7-7) defense allowed 36 shots on net for the night, the defense tightened up to allow only one shot on net in the extra period.
The Pipers' (6-5-2) John Sellie-Hanson recorded 20 saves.
Stout is at Gustavus Adolphus College, Saturday, Jan. 7 at 7 p.m.

- Both goalies records go to 3-2-0
- For Adam Kresl, it was his third goal of the season, and his second game-winning-goal
- The Blue Devils not go on the power play for the first time this season. The Pipers were whistled for only one penalty, and that came at the same time as a Stout penalty in the second period.
- The 35 saves by Spencer Viele was a season-high for the entire team
