Diedrich scores double-double as Stout downs Platteville

UW-Stout 72, UW-Platteville 59

PLATTEVILLE (January 4, 2017) - Kyncaide Diedrich scored UW-Stout's first double-double of the season and UW-Stout went on to a 72-59 conference opening win at UW-Platteville Wednesday.

Diedrich was only 3-of-15 from the field, with one 3-pointer, but made the Pioneers pay at the free throw line where she drained 10-of-11 charity shots. Diedrich was also opportunistic off the glass, pulling down 10 rebounds. Diedrich dished off seven assists, flirting with a triple double.

The Pioneers (4-8, 0-1 WIAC) held a one point, 16-15, lead at the end of the first quarter. But Stout (5-7, 1-0 WIAC) used the second quarter to surge ahead, matching their biggest second quarter blast of the season, outscoring Platteville 29-21 in the stanza to take a 44-37 halftime lead. Stout outscored Platteville 14-11 in both the third and fourth quarters to give the Blue Devils the 13 point win.

Jenna Goldsmith added 12 points and Becky Fesenmaier chipped in nine for the Blue Devils. Carolyn Feddema led Stout with nine rebounds.

Stout was stellar at the line, setting a new school record by shooting 94.1 percent (16-17). Diedrich was 10-11, while Anna Brown, Feddema and Becky Fesenmaier each made both of their attempts.

The Pioneers were led by Morgan Horstman with 14 points, Morgan Hartman had 13 points and Allison Prestegaard finished with 12 point.

Stout returns to Johnson Fieldhouse for the first time in nearly a month when they host conference favorite UW-Oshkosh, Saturday, Jan. 7 at 3 p.m.
