MENOMONIE (January 26, 2017) -
Colton Brausen and
Riley Colvard each had a goal and an assist and
Spencer Viele turned away 25 shots as UW-Stout defeated UW-Eau Claire, 2-1, Thursday in WIAC action at the Fanetti Community Center.
The sixth ranked Blugolds (14-5-3, 3-2-0 WIAC) got on the board first when Alex Strand scored early, getting an assist only 2:52 into the game as the crowd was just starting to settle in.
The Blue Devils (10-8-2, 2-1-0 WIAC) tied the score up at 15:51 of the first period when Brausen scored from in front of the net, getting assists from Colvard and
Adam Kresl.
After a scoreless second period, Stout wasted little time taking the lead. Brausen found a cutting Colvard only 20 seconds into the third period.
Viele and the Blue Devil defense did the rest, allowing only four shots on frame in the final stanza. Viele finished with 25 saves, while his counterpart, Jay Deo, recorded 26 saves.
The Blue Devils were only whistled once in the game, that coming midway through the third period. The Blugolds were able to get only one shot on frame during the power play opportunity. Eau Claire was penalized three times and Stout was not able to captitalize on the advantage.
Stout resumes conference action Friday, Jan. 27 when they will host UW-Superior at 7:30 p.m.

- The win extends Stout's unbeaten streak to four games, with three wins and a tie.
- Riley Colvard has scored a team-high nine goals, a career high. Over his first three season, Colvard scored seven total goals.
- Brausen is right behind Colvard with eight goals.
- Stout last season tied the Blugolds 2-2 in Eau Claire. Stout's last win over Eau Claire came Jan. 31, 2015, a 4-3 decision. Stout's last win over Eau Claire in Menomonie came Oct. 28, 2011, a 5-2 win.
