MENOMONIE (January 20, 2017) - Down 1-0, UW-Stout scored two goals in the second period and went on to a 3-1 win over visiting Concordia University, Wisconsin, Friday at the Fanetti Community Center.
After the Falcons (9-7-1), who had beaten Stout in November, took a 1-0 lead in the first period on a goal by Josh Adkins, the Blue Devils (9-8-1) scored twice within less than a minute in the second period.
Freshman
Adam Kresl put the Blue Devils on the board, with assists by
Shayne McLaughlin and
Joe Kleven, at the 6:57 mark on a power play goal. Fellow freshman
Connor Valesano scored 54 seconds later, scoring at the 7:51 mark, for his sixth goal of the season, with assists by
Derek Sand and
Karl Andersen.
Austin Jackson made it a trio of freshmen who scored for the Blue Devils to give Stout a two goal lead, scoring unassisted at 13:35 in the third period.
Spencer Viele raised his record to 5-1-0, taking the win by making 33 saves. Nick Malvin took the loss for the Blue Devils, recording 27 saves.
Stout will play host to St. Thomas, Saturday, Jan. 21, at 1:30 p.m. at the Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul, Minn., in conjunction with Hockey Day in Minnesota. The Blue Devils have 11 players on their roster who hail from Minnesota.
