Tennis comes back to grab opening day win

St. Ambrose, 7, UW-Stout 2 | UW-Stout 9, Wisconsin Lutheran 0

MENOMONIE (September 3, 2016) - UW-Stout's Anna Lano (Sr, Chaska, Minn) and Katie Govin (So, Chippewa Falls) won singles matches in both contest as the Blue Devils came back to blank Wisconsin Lutheran after losing the day's opening match to St. Ambrose University.

The Fighting Bees downed Stout, 7-2, in the morning, but the Blue Devils (1-1) bounced back to take a 9-0 win over Wisconsin Lutheran. The goose egg was the first the Blue Devils' have put on an opponent since defeating Bethany Lutheran by the same score in September, 2014.
 
Lano won a pair of No. 3 matches, coming back to down St. Ambrose's Sammy Carr, 7-5, 6-4, and Wisconsin Lutheran's Emily Boyd, 6-3,  6-1.  Govin won at No. 5 singles over St. Ambrose's Nikki Steiner, 6-4, 6-3, then moved up to No. 4, to defeat WLC's Katarina Volkmann, 6-3, 6-1. Emma Pedersen (Sr, Eau Claire) lost a hard-fought match to the Bees' Mary Alice Oswalt, 6-5, 7-6 at No. 2 singles.

Stout is off until they open conference play by traveling to UW-River Falls, Saturday, Sept. 10.
