St. Benedict 6, UW-Stout 3
MENOMONIE (September 17, 2016) - After getting blanked in a conference match with UW-Eau Claire in the early morning, UW-Stout put up a fight before bowing out to the College of St. Benedict in the late afternoon Saturday at the South Courts.
The Blue Devils (2-3, 1-1 WIAC) dropped a 6-3 decision to the Blazers (2-2), but were well within striking range in several singles matches.
Katie Kreibich,
Katie Govin and
Jenna Welke all picked up singles wins against St. Benedict. Kreibich defeated Erin Kolbow at No. 3, Govin downed Taylor Kraemer in a tough 7-6 (7-3), 7-6 (7-1) desicion at No. 4 and
Jenna Welke downed Megan Hintz, 6-4, 6-4, at No. 6.
Anna Lano won her first set at No. 5, 6-3, then fell 6-1 in the set two. She was edged by Ellen Stensrud, 10-8, in the final set.
Kreibich and
Ellen Miller teamed at No. 3 doubles and were edged 8-5.
Against UW-Eau Claire, the Blue Devils lost in straight set. Govin had the tightest match of the morning, lsing a 7-5, 6-4 decision at No. 6 singles.
Stout returns to action when they host Bethany Lutheran College and Alverno College, Saturday, Sept. 24.
