Blue Devil tennis handily downs Falcons in WIAC opener

UW-Stout 8, UW-River Falls 1

RIVER FALLS (September 10, 2016) - UW-Stout handily defeated UW-River Falls in a Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) opener Saturday, downing the Falcons 8-1.

The Blue Devils (2-1, 1-0 WIAC) doubles teams set the groundwork for the day, not giving up more than two sets.

Linsey Thisius and Anna Lano took No. 1 doubles with an 8-2 score. Emma Pedersen and Jenna Welke gave up only one set with an 8-1 win. Katie Kreibich and Annie Sandry captured No. 3 doubles at 8-2.

Thisius won at No. 1 singles, 6-1, 6-3. Pedersen took No. 2 singles at 6-3, 6-4. Kreibich won No. 4 singles at 6-3, 6-3. Lano won at No. 5 with a tighter 6-4, 6-4, win and Welke won at No. 6 with 7-6 (7-2), 6-3 win. Katie Govin dropped her No. 3 singles match with a close 7-5, 6-4 decision.

Stout will host UW-Eau Claire and the College of St. Benedict, Saturday, Sept. 17, Eau Claire at 9 a.m. and St. Benedict at 3 p.m.
