UW-Whitewater 7, UW-Stout 1
WHITEWATER (May 7, 2016) - UW-Stout simply did not have enough offense to trip up 11th ranked UW-Whitewater and the Warhawks finished the four game series by sweeping the Blue Devils Saturday, 3-0, 7-1, at Miller Stadium.
Hayden Bowe went the distance in the opener, scattering eight hits, allowing 14 runners on base, but stranding seven. Two runs were earned. Bowe walked only one batter and hit another. The Blue Devils committed three errors. Bowe kept the Warhawks off the board until giving up a run in the fifth inning. The Warhawks scored twice in the seventh inning, an inning Stout committed two errors.
The Blue Devils had four hits to the Warhawks' eight. Designated hitter
Jon Krueger was 2-for-3 and
Brady Burzynski and
Noah Brown had the other two hits.
In the second game, the Warhawks got two runs in the second inning, but Stout cut the lead in half in the fourth inning when
Ryan Connor drove home
Hunter Dicus with a double. Dicus had reached on a lead off bunt single, then moved to second on
Alex Tauer's groundout. The Blue Devils got three of their five hits in the inning.
Clay Gale had a single.
The Warhawks took a 3-1 lead in the fifth, then scored four times in the seventh.
Josh Halling was 2-for-2 to lead Stout.
Derek Graves recorded four strikeouts to absorb the loss. Whitewater's Connor Hurst and Luke Bachar combined for nine strikeouts to keep Stout off stride.
The games wrapped up the WIAC schedule. Stout will close out the season Monday, May 9 when they host Macalester College at 2:30 p.m.
