UW-Whitewater 3, UW-Stout 2 | Game Two
EAU CLAIRE (May 6, 2016) - UW-Stout had the potential tying run on first base in the top of the seventh inning, but could not plate the runner and dropped a one-run, 3-2, decision to UW-Whitewater in the first game of the 2016 WIAC Softball Championship Friday at Carson Park.
Coming out of the flex position,
Alyssa Germscheid looped a one-out infield hit to first base.
Kim Jablonski replaced Germscheid at first base, but never went any further as Whitewater's Julia Camardo finished off the inning with consecutive strikeouts.
The Warhawks (26-12) got on the board first when Hannah Taylor ripped a double to score Caitlin Catino.
The Blue Devils (17-21) took the lead when pitcher
Tori Workman smashed a two-run home run to center field in the fourth inning, bringing home
Alicia Meyer, who drew a one-out walk.
Whitewater tied the game in the bottom of the inning on an RBI double by Nikki Mikosz. The Warhawks added another run in the fifth inning on a two-out, RBI single by Amy Ricci.
Stout had a chance in the sixth inning when
Sara Griesbach lifted a two-out double over the centerfielder, but was left stranded.
Workman took the loss for the Blue Devils, striking out five, scattering eight hits and two earned runs. The Warhawks Camardo struck out 12, allowed seven hits and two earned runs. She walked one. Stout left six runners on base, Whitewater seven.
The Blue Devils will play the loser of the UW-La Crosse/UW-Oshkosh game at 4 p.m. The Warhawks will play top seeded UW-Eau Claire at 2 p.m.
