Blue Devils see leads in both games disappear as Warhawks sweep

UW-Whitewater 6, UW-Stout 5 | UW-Whitewater 13, UW-Stout 4

WHITEWATER (May 6, 2016) - UW-Stout had leads in both games, but saw the leads disappear as UW-Whitewater swept the first two games in a four game WIAC series, 6-5, 13-4, Friday at Miller Stadium.

In the first game, the Blue Devils (14-22,4-14 WIAC) staked their way to a 5-3 lead in the top of the seventh, but the 11th ranked Warhawks (25-12,11-7 WIAC) tied the score in the bottom of the seventh, then got the game winner on a home run by Blake Fleischman.

Noah Brown continued his hot hitting, going 4-for-5 in the contest, coming up a home run short of the cycle as he hit two doubles a single and a triple. The Warhawks' Fleischman was also 4-for-5. Brown had an RBI double in the first inning and an RBI triple in the seventh inning. Hunter Dicus had an RBI in the two-run seventh that put stout up 5-4.

In game two, Whitewater scored six runs in the fourth, then added two more in the bottom of the fifth to take a 10-2 lead. Stout's Hunter Dicus was 3-for-4 with an RBI. Jake Johnson was 2-for-4. The Warhawks had four players with two hits apiece.

The Blue Devils took the early lead, scoring twice in the second inning. Three consecutive infield hits by Dicus, Jake Johnson and Jared Wilson loaded the bases. An hit to deep third base by Clay Gale put Stout on the board, bringing Dicus across the plate. Jared Jarvensivu fielder's choice brought Johnson in and Stout held a two run lead.

The Warhawks scored in the next four innings, getting individual runs in the second and third innings, then exploding for six in the fourth and two in the fifth. Whitewater added another run in the seventh to make it 11-2.

Stout got two runs back in the eighth inning. Jon Krueger;s double brought home Brady Burzynski, who had reached on an error. Krueger scored on Dicus' single up the middle. The Warhawks scored two of their own runs in the bottom of the inning to complete the scoring.

Both teams hit the ball around the park in both games. In the first game, Whitewater outhit Stout 14-12. In the second game, the Warhawks held a 12-11 advantage. Errors cluttered the field as well. Stout committed eight over the two games and Whitewater chalked up five total.

The teams will wrap up the series Saturday, May 7. First pitch is scheduled for noon.
