UW-Whitewater 9, UW-Stout 8 (9 inn)
WHITEWATER (April 9, 2016) - UW-Stout used the long ball to win the conference-opening conest at UW-Whitewater, then played a long game only to lose to the Warhawks, 9-8, in nine-innings Saturday at van Steenderen Complex.

Sara Griesbach all backed up a strong pitching performance by ace
Tori Workman in the first game by recording their first home runs of the season.
Stout (9-9, 1-1 WIAC) got on the board first when Wood unloaded a shot to center field in the first inning. The Blue Devils took a 3-1 lead in the third inning. Thomas launched a one-out solo home run.
Karley Wiensch followed with a single up the middle, then stole second. Following an out, Wiensch scored on single by
Heather Bol.
The Warhawks (12-7, 1-1 WIAC) pulled two within a run with single runs in the third and fourth.
The Blue Devils took control with a three-run sixth inning. Workman drew a lead-off walk, then came home on Francois' home run. Griesbach followed a solo shot of her own.
Workman tallied eight strikeouts and no walks, while scattering three hits. Francois was 2-for-4 and Bol was 2-for-3.
In the second game, the teams traded blows early.
Alicia Meyer drove in a run to give Stout a 1-0 lead in the second inning, but the Warhawks answered back with two runs in the bottom half of the inning. Stout the game on an infield RBI single by Bol to tie the game at 2-2. The Warhawks answered again with a single run and took a one-run lead.
Stout scored three runs in the fourth inning for a 5-3 lead, taking advantage of several Whitewater miscues. Whitewater tied the game with two runs in the fifth, but Stout scored three runs on Bol's three run shot down the right field line and Stout led 8-5. The Warhawks scored one run in the sixth, then tied the game on a two-run home run by Hannah Taylor, sending the game into extra innings.
Stout stranded one runner in each the eighth and ninth innings. The Warhawks took the win on an RBI single up the middle by Emily Rux.
Workman took the loss, working 3.1 innings in relief, striking out three. Bol was 3-of-5 with four RBI in the contest. Wiensch was 3-for-6 and Griesbach was 3-of-5.
Stout will be at UW-Oshkosh, Sunday, April 10 with a 1 p.m. start scheduled.
