MENOMONIE (April 24, 2016) - The games started early and still got done at the regular time. UW-Stout and UW-La Crosse endured rain throughout the morning and afternoon and a nearly two hour rain delay as the Eagles defeated the Blue Devils 13-1 in seven innings and 7-0 Sunday at Nelson Field.
The ninth-ranked Eagles jumped out to a 6-0 lead, scoring four runs in the first inning and two in the third inning, before rain forced a 1-hour, 49-minute delay.
The stoppage did not hurt the Eagles (23-6, 12-0 WIAC), who scored three more runs in the fifth inning and four in the sixth inning. Stout got their only run of the day in the bottom of the sixth inning on a solo home run by
Noah Brown. The game was ended after the seventh inning on the 10-run rule.
In the nightcap, which went the full nine innings despite rain throughout, the Eagles chipped away a slowly as the rain fell. La Crosse scored two in the first inning, the added a single run int the fifth and four runs in the seventh.
A day after Stout (11-17, 3-9 WIAC) totalled 25 hits over the two games, the Blue Devils could muster only nine hits, six in the first inning, three in the second.
Stout is off until they travel to UW-Platteville, Saturday, April 29 and May 1.
