THIS WEEK'S GAMES: The Blue Devils (9-13, 1-5 WIAC) will host conference rival,
UW-Platteville (3-15, 0-2 WIAC), Saturday, April 16 at 1 p.m. The Blue Devils will look to bounce back from a pair of conference home losses to UW-La Crosse on Wednesday, while the Pioneers split a pair of games with Beloit College, losing the first game, 5-3, but coming back with their highest run total of the season with a 14-12 win. Stout will host
Wartburg College (11-17, 2-2 IIAC), Sunday, April 17 at 2 p.m. Sunday will be Alumni Day.
UW-STOUT: For the Blue Devils, getting runners on base has not been a real problem, it is getting them across the plate that is. Over the last four games, Stout has scored one run in each game, thereby avoiding the shutout, but they have stranded an average of just over four runners per contest. Beth Wood has been smacking the ball for the Blue Devils, leading the way with a batting average of .412 (28-68) and a team-high 14 RBI. Wood is carrying an eight game hitting streak into today's doubleheader and is currently seventh in the WIAC in average. Sophomore catcher
Rachel Thomas, who led the team last year in batting average last year, is hitting .378 (28-74). Thomas, who last year hit one home run and one triple, has matched her home run total from last year and has three triple, tying her for first in the WIAC. Thomas has a team-best five stolen bases. Kaylee Francois has worked her way into the starting line-up and has responded with an average of .341 (15-44) with nine RBI. Francois cracked her first home run of her college career in a win over UW-Whitewater last weekend and has also punched two triples. First baseman
Heather Bol is hitting .328 (21-64) and has 12 RBI, second behind Wood.
Alicia Meyer has seen action in 16 games and is hitting .310 (9-29) with 10 RBI and a team-best two home runs. Two-time first team all-WIAC pitcher
Tori Workman continues to deal, rolling up 62 strikeouts over 76.2 innings pitched, ranking second in the conference in both categories. Workman owns the Blue Devil career strikeout record and continues to add to it. currently recording 459 strikeouts. Workman needs two wins to tie the school record for most wins in her career. She currently has 51 career wins. This season, Workman has recorded two saves, running her career total to six, tying the school career record set by Megan Donley. Wood and
McKayla Brunner have seen considerable time in the circle. Wood has started nine games while Brunner has made four starts and eight appearances. |

BLUE DEVILS LAST TIME OUT: The Blue Devils got a single run in the seventh inning of both games, losing to UW-La Crose, 4-1, 7-1, Wednesday. The Blue Devils recorded five hits in each game, but stranded eight in the first game, three in the second.

WIAC PRESEASON POLL The Blue Devils were selected to finish fifth, accoring to a
WIAC preseason poll. UW-Whitewater was picked first, followed by UW-Oshkosh, UW-Eau Claire and UW-La Crosse. UW-River Falls, UW-Stevens Point and UW-Platteville were chosen sixth, seventh and eighth, respectively.
RECORD BEATER: When UW-Stout collected 25 runs in a 25-0 win over Southern Vermont University, March 15, it established a school record for most runs scored in a single game. The Blue Devils scored 11 runs in the first inning alone. Stout finished the game with 13 hits, but only three hits were extra base hits, with a double by
Alicia Meyer and triples by
Sara Griesbach and
Kelly Austin. Stout drew nine walks in the contest and twice Blue Devil batters were hit by a pitch. The previous record was 20 runs scored against Wisconsin Lutheran in 2000. Austin is thought to have tied a school record when she scored four runs against Southern Vermont.
WORKMAN WORKING THE Ks: Pitcher
Tori Workman holds the school record for most strikeouts in a single season (160) and recently set the school record for most career strikeouts, surpassing Karen Lien's 409 strikeouts. Lien, a Blue Devil Hall of Fame member, pitched from 1992-95. Workman currently has 459 career strikeouts and moved up to seventh on the WIAC career strikeout list, moving past UW-La Crosse's Sally Wenzel (432 - 2000-03). Karen Guckenburg (504 - 2000-03) of UW-Stevens Point is sixth on the list. Ronessa Stampfli (2005-08) of UW-Oshkosh has a firm grip on the WIAC career record with 1019 strikeouts. Workman also moved onto the WIAC list for most innings pitched. Workman is tied for 12th overall with 569.1 innings pitched. Workman needs two wins to tie Lien and Carolyn Bare for the most UW-Stout wins by a pitcher. Lien and Bare (1995-98) both have 53 wins. Workman has four wins this season to move her total to 51 career wins.
TRIPLE TIME: The Blue Devils have put up nine triples so far this year, with
Rachel Thomas one of the conference leaders with three.

Tori Workman,
Sara Griesbach and
Alyssa Germscheid each have one.
UW-PLATTEVILLE: After dropping their first 10 games to open the season, the Pioneers won two of the next four contests, splitting with Loras College and Wartburg College. The Pioneers were topped by UW-Whitewater, 4-0, 9-6, Wednesday, then split with Beloit the next day. Taylor Brown leads the Pioneers at the plate, batting an even .300 (12-40). Carley Rote is hitting .298 (17-57). Keelye Schultz leads the team in RBI with 11. Brooke Posey, Jess Butzen and Dakota Stout have worked the most in the circle, with Butzen getting nine starts and completing nine games. PIONEERS LAST TIME OUT: After dropping the opener with Beloit College, the Pioneers racked up 14 runs, 15 hits and committed no errors. Platteville scored three runs in the second inning, but let the Buccaneers retake the lead with a four-run bottom half the inning. The Pioneers then rolled off seven runs in the third, sending 12 batters to the plate. Pticher Brooke Posey was 4-for-5 with three RBI on a pair of doubles. LAST TIME THEY MET: Stout swept UW-Platteville in two tight games against the Pioneers in Platteville, April 12, 2016. The first game ended 9-7 and the second 6-4. WARTBURG COLLEGE: After going 6-14 over their first 20 games, the Knights are 5-3 over their last eight. Mara Forsyth is hitting .462, Erica Countryman .452 and Katie Sommer .400. AWARDS AND HONORS: Tori Workman was the WIAC pitcher of the week after allowing no earned runs in a loss to St. Benedict to open the season and after seeing action in the circle in seven of UW-Stout's final 10 games at the Fastpitch Dreams Softball Classic in North Myrtle Beach, S.C. She started four games in South Carolina, finishing with an ERA of 1.28 and a record of 3-2....

Becky Iaccino (27-29) is in her first year as the head coach of the Blue Devils. Iaccino played professionally in Italy
played professionally in Italy from 2003 to 2011 and with the Italian National team from 2005-07. She has been the head coach at Marian University where she was selected as conference coach of the year, and has eight years of experience as an assistant coach at Division I and III programs, most recently at Concordia University Chicago.
