UW-Stout 3, SUNY-New Paltz 2NORTH MYRTLE BEACH, SC (March 19, 2016) - UW-Stout exacted a bit of revenge, but more importantly ended their spring break trip on a winning note with a 3-2 win over SUNY-New Paltz Saturday morning.
On Friday, the Hawks pounded the Blue Devils in a 9-1, 5-inning affair as Stout played their third game of the day. With a night's rest, it was the Blue Devils' turn to come out on top.
Stout (8-6) got on the board first, taking advantage of a Hawks' error.
Karley Wiensch reached on an infield error, then moved to second on
Rachel Thomas' sacrifice bunt. Pitcher
Tori Workman helped her own cause with an RBI single, driving in Thomas.
The Blue Devils took a 3-0 lead when
Sara Griesbach led off the fourth with a single, then came home on
Alicia Meyer's second home run of the season.
New Paltz (3-5) got their only runs of the game in the top of the fifth. With a runner on first, an outfield error allowed Julia Perhac's single to be turned into a t-ball home run.
But Workman shut the door the rest of the way, not allowing a runner the rest of the way to even her record at 3-3. Workman allowed three hits and struck out six, while walking two.
The Blue Devils are off until they open the northern schedule at St. Olaf College, Thursday, March 31.
