Edgewood College 14, UW-Stout 5FORT MYERS, Fla. (March 18, 2016) - Both teams used big second innings to take command in one of the games as UW-Stout and Edgewood College split a doubleheader Friday, The Blue Devils scored eight runs in the second inning to a 10-5 first game win, while the Eagles returned the favor with eight runs of the second inning to take a 14-5 second game win.
After taking a 1-0 lead in the opener on
Noah Brown's first inning RBI double, the Blue Devils (5-4) took advantage of four Eagle errors on the second inning to jump out to a 9-0 lead, highlighted by a triple by Brown. The Eagles came back with four runs in the top of the third to cut the lead to 9-4.
Edgewood (4-5) scored a run in the sixth inning to pull to within four runs. Brown scored Stout's final run in the sixth inning, a single, then coming around on
Josh Halling's hit before scoring on a passed ball.
In the second game, Edgewood built a 14-0 lead before the Blue Devils got on the board in the fifth inning. Edgewood scored eight runs in the second,then tacked on six more runs in the bottom of the fourth.
Stout rolled up five runs in the fifth inning. Pinch hitter
Ryan Connor reached, starting a Blue Devil roll where the next six runners reached safely. Brown and
Dane Helnore each had doubles in the run.
Stout will conclude their spring break trip Saturday, March 19, when they meet Vassar College in a doubleheader.
