Game 1:
UW-Stout 12, Bay Path 0 (5 inn.) | Game 2:
Eureka 3, UW-Stout 2 (11 inn.)
N. MYRTLE BEACH, SC (March 16, 2016) - Stout's
McKayla Brunner threw a shutout in their first game against Bay Path College, going the total five innings. She recorded ten strikeouts; three of which were in the third inning where she struck out the side. The Blue Devils had 13 hits including an
Alicia Meyer home run. The second game was much closer. Stout went 11 innings with the Eureka Red Devils and fell after a run was scored on an error.
Stout had their bats swinging right out of the gate. They scored two runs in the first after
Tori Workman scored on a passed ball and
Karley Wiensch was walked and was driven in by a
Rachel Thomas sac fly. The Blue Devils added four more runs in the second inning behind Meyer's home run and a triple by Workman. They then went on to match those six runs in the fourth. They didn't need the final two innings, winning in five.
The second game of their double header proved to be a much tougher test. They once again faced Eureka College, who they fell to on their first day of play. The game was a defensive battle. Both teams scored in the third inning, scoring two runs apiece. Workman came into pitch in the fifth inning and helped the game stay tight, throwing seven strikeouts. The game was sealed by Eureka in the eleventh inning after some nifty base running and a Stout error.
The team will get a day of rest tomorrow, but will be back in action on Friday as they face Albright for the second time this week and Rutgers-Camden.
